Born in Esashi, Hokkaido in 1955.
After starting his commercial photography career in 1978, he began taking images of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group, and became a freelance photographer in 1984, phocusing on nature photography.
Since 1989, he has been photographing Sakhalin, the Kuril islands, and Kamchatka in Far East Russia, and since then he has been pursuing nature in various parts of Japan, mainly in Hokkaido and Tohoku.
